SCHOLARSHIP STEWARDSHIP REPORT (Intro)
Dear John and Jane,
Macalester can be a place of extremes, especially at this time of year: temperatures plummet, assignments pile up, group meetings stretch late into the night, and everywhere you look there’s a new a cappella troop. This spirited intensity is typical for term’s end and speaks to the vitality of our campus community. Students from every corner of the world are drawn to our special blend of academic rigor, approachable faculty, civic engagement, and global perspective.
Not only do we attract a diverse student body, but we remain resolute in our commitment to affordability and access. Macalester is proud to meet the full demonstrated financial need of every admitted student. Of the Class of 2018, 73 percent are receiving need-based financial aid, and the average aid package is $40,994. Scholarships and grants provide the greatest source of funding for these financial aid packages, comprising 85 percent of aid for all students. More than 90 percent of all grants and scholarships received by our students are Macalester-supported funds.
Endowed scholarships are a vital part of Macalester’s financial aid program and we are deeply grateful for this support. I am pleased to share with you the endowment financials and enclosed report(s) for the following scholarship(s):
The Smith Family Scholarship
Contributions as of 5/31/14: Market Value as of 5/31/14: Available Spending for 2014-15:
$ 150,000 $ 200,000 $ 10,000
On behalf of everyone at Macalester, I thank you for your support and your advocacy. You remind me that the exceptional energy and intellect of our students is matched only by the great generosity of our donors and friends. Thank you for all you do for Macalester.
Yours, for Macalester,

EMAIL APPEAL
Dear John Smith,
As a Museum member, you know the transformative power of play. You see it every time you visit Minnesota Children’s Museum. You’ve watched a toddler navigate a bat cave, heard a passion for singing born in the Studio Express, and admired the innovative brushwork of the next Picasso. You know that play builds foundational skills and inspires imagination.
This holiday season, share that magic. Give a gift that will change a young life – give the gift of play.
Your support helps us welcome those who may not receive many gifts this year. Donor contributions are especially important to the 100,000+ people served through the Museum’s Access program, which provides free and reduced-price admission to families facing financial difficulties. Help us open our doors even wider this year so we can serve all children in 2012.
Please consider making a gift to Minnesota Children’s Museum. This holiday season, give the gift of play to those who need it most. To make a donation or discuss how your support forwards the Museum’s mission, please contact me anytime at xxx-xxxx or [email protected]
Thank you and Happy Holidays,
P.S. Donate $40 or more by December 31st and you’ll receive a Pay it Forward pass as a Thank You. Our new Pay it Forward passes were created just for donors and they’re good for two free admissions to the Museum. They make great stocking stuffers and rewards for your helpful elves!

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT LETTER (Tribute Gift)
Dear John Smith,
You’re helping bring learning to life for a whole generation of kids!
Minnesota Children’s Museum recently received your donation of gift in honor of Jane Smith. Your gift will be used to spark children’s learning all across the museum. Young engineers will go to town designing skyscrapers, our Ant Hill will swarm with entomologists-in-training, and little Picassos will see the world as their easel. Today’s imagination is tomorrow’s innovation.
Because of generous support, we’re able to better serve our whole community. The Museum’s Access initiative provides free and reduced admission to about 25% of our annual audience. Last year, we welcomed more than 100,000 Access visitors and we look forward to reaching even more families in 2011. The generosity of our donors helps break economic barriers and ensures that all families can play together.
Donor support is the fuel that keeps us on course in our mission of discovery. Your contribution gives us a boost when it comes to designing fresh programming and new exhibits. Our latest endeavor, Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites, was developed in-house and introduces young literary explorers to the magical and vitally important world of reading. Little ones see classic tales come alive as they wander through the worlds of beloved characters like Peter Rabbit and Spot the Dog. A second version of this exhibit is set to travel across Greater Minnesota and reflects our push to foster active learning environments across the state.
Thank you for your contribution. We have notified [receiver name] of your kindness and we thank you for celebrating them with a gift to Minnesota Children’s Museum. In their honor, you’re making a difference.
Thank you.

FOLLOW-UP APPEAL
Dear John Smith,
I'm following up on my last letter to remind you that Minnesota Children's Museum values your support. As a generous Museum donor, I know you share my conviction that play builds foundational skills and a lifetime of creative exploration. Play pushes boundaries, develops critical thinking and sets the stage for leadership potential. Play is essential to every child's optimal growth.
Today, you can share the gift of play with children who need it most by renewing your support of Minnesota Children's Museum. I ask that you consider a gift of $x or more, if you are able, to help us invite more children to come and play.
Every child should have ample time to run, jump, explore, wonder, experiment and imagine. Unfortunately, many do not. Help us extend our reach and open our doors even wider.
Your support is helping us break down barriers. This year alone, more than 100,000 children and families facing financial challenges will have great play experiences because of you through Access. This includes 2,200+ FREE family memberships and 50,000+ students and teachers who have their learning sparked during school field trips.
You’re making a real impact for Minnesota families. Access member Audrey L. wanted us to share her gratitude:
“Thank you SO much! Our children have benefited greatly from your donations and support. Being able to in turn give them the opportunity to explore and play at such an amazing facility is such a gift to us, as parents”
I join Audrey and our Access member families in thanking you for your support. We really couldn’t do it without you!
I ask you again to please renew your support this fall. Your investment today provides critical resources so that every child can have transformative play experiences. Thank you!
Warm Regards,
